When we empower a child through education, we not only improve their life but also unlock their potential to uplift others too. This mindset holds true for Jenard Baiza, who has been an ERDA scholar ever since he was in high school.

Hailing from Navotas, Jenard grew up in a humble yet noble home. His mother stayed at home to take care of the family while his father worked as a construction worker and pedicab driver. Like many families in their community, affording education was a constant challenge. However, things began to change for the better when Jenard joined ERDA workshops as a teenager. What started as a simple engagement turned into a life-changing opportunity. An opportunity that gave him the tools to dream big and serve others.

For Jenard, ERDA’s support extended beyond just financial assistance. From the school supplies during his junior high school, to the tablet and laptop he got during the pandemic, and the scholarship grant he obtained in college, ERDA was there to support him at every step of his journey. Yet among all these forms of support, what Jenard values most is the mentorship he received. It was Ma’am Rosalie, an ERDA staff member, who helped him discern his degree program. Through her guidance and belief in his potential, Jenard realized that becoming a teacher was his true calling.

Today, Jenard is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in English Education at the Philippine Normal University. He remains deeply involved with ERDA as a facilitator and youth leader. He has represented ERDA in national conferences and was even awarded the ERDA Youth Leader Award during the foundation’s 50th anniversary. Throughout it all, he remains grounded in his mission to give back and empower his own students the same way ERDA empowered him.
